School Supply Wish Lists
Do you remember the excitement of back to school shopping? Picking out all of the new supplies for the year. The huge decision of what backpack you will sport this term? Which pencils to get? The smell of the new erasers and markers? A small bit of joy and eager anticipation that every child deserves as they look forward to the coming school adventures. But sadly that is not the case for these students.
Overcrowded classrooms packed with kids eager to learn, willing to do whatever is needed to obtain an education with limited to no tools to support them.
These resilient students currently share notebooks and even pencils between several students at one time. The poverty level of these rural areas does not allow for schools to offer supplies, so each students family is responsible to obtain them for their child. Most of these families sacrifice everything, including meals and food, to scrape together enough money just to pay the basic school fees, but do not have enough for basic supplies. Imagine how difficult it would be to attend school all day, trying to learn without even a pencil or a piece of paper to work with. Going out to recess or gym class and having no equipment.
In our story video, I talk a little bit about how this whole dream of mine got started. You can not imagine the joy and excitement those several hundred students had at our assembly when they were presented with just the few items I was able to purchase and provide! Pencils, a few notebooks, scissors, crayons, clay.. I think the biggest smiles were form the teachers receiving new chalk for their classrooms!
